Isn't it neat. There were even cows grazing on the sidelines.
If you've ever seen "El Dorado" you'll recognize this ball court. The balls were not as bouncey and the players usually wore pads made of cement.
You'll notice that the buildings are not all the way excavated. Mostly because of the cost of excavating in the first place. But they also have to have the money to restore at the same time as the excavating. If they excavate and don't restore immediately the buildings will literally crumble from exposure. So until they have the money to excavate and restore they don't finish exposing the buildings.
Resting on the altar that's centered between 4 temples, North, South, East and West. The altar, though used as an altar was also a representation of the Tree of Life, all life flowing from it to the separate Temples.
I had to give you an example of how steep the steps were. You'd have to get right up to the edge of the wall to even find where the staircase started, you honestly couldn't tell.
